The P.L.A.Y. Project and working with a PLAY Project Consultant
What is it?
The P.L.A.Y. Project (Play and Language for Autistic Youngsters) is a relationship-based, developmental intervention designed for young children with autism. Grounded in the first six stages of Dr. Stanley Greenspan’s DIR/Floortime model, it focuses on helping children build essential social, emotional, and communication skills—through the power of play.
Unlike traditional therapy models, the P.L.A.Y. Project uses a coaching approach, empowering parents and caregivers to become active partners in their child’s growth.
The P.L.A.Y. Project is:
Evidence-based and backed by over 15 years of research and success
Cost-effective, with customizable packages at as little as $100/month
Empowering, giving parents tools and confidence to make a real difference
Efficient, with support integrated into your child’s daily routines and favorite activities
With the right kind of play, children can make meaningful progress—and families can feel hopeful and supported along the way.
What it entails
Through the P.L.A.Y. Project, caregivers receive personalized coaching that helps them:
Understand your child’s unique sensory and motor preferences—what helps them feel calm, focused, and engaged
Join your child in their world by learning how to connect through the activities they already enjoy
Use proven strategies and play-based techniques to support communication, emotional growth, and social interaction
See your child—and their play—through a new lens that reveals their strengths, interests, and potential
You’ll learn how to turn everyday moments into meaningful opportunities for connection and progress—all through the power of play.
What does it look like?
The P.L.A.Y. Project’s techniques, strategies, and activities can be integrated into your child’s regular speech-language sessions or added as a supplemental intervention. This flexible approach focuses on strengthening your child’s core developmental skills, including interaction, engagement, and communication—the building blocks for future learning.
To support your growth as a parent-coach, sessions are videotaped at least once per month. Coaching happens in a variety of ways:
Live modeling in front of the camera, so you can see strategies in action
Real-time coaching from behind the camera, guiding you as you play and connect with your child
Written and video feedback to review at your own pace and refer back to anytime
Access to print and digital resources directly from the P.L.A.Y. Project, so you can deepen your understanding and continue learning between sessions
All of this helps you feel confident and supported as you learn to use play as a powerful tool for progress.
